About the Opportunity?
As a People & Culture Business Partner in a heavy‑industry environment, you will play a pivotal role in enabling operational success through strong people practices. Acting as a trusted advisor to leaders, you’ll provide practical, solutions‑focused support across the employee lifecycle while also contributing to broader workforce, capability and cultural initiatives.
You’ll coach and influence leaders through complex people decisions, strengthen performance and engagement, and help shape an organisation that is safe, capable and fit for the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pragmatic, timely advice on HR policies, procedures, employment legislation and industrial instruments to support operational decision‑making
- Partner with operational leaders across the full employee lifecycle, including workforce and organisational planning, onboarding, performance management, development, restructuring and exits
- Manage employee and industrial relations matters end‑to‑end, including investigations, case management, issue resolution and engagement with unions and employee representatives where required
- Contribute to and deliver People & Culture strategies and workforce initiatives that build capability, reinforce culture and support long‑term organisational sustainability
- Coach, guide and upskill leaders on day‑to‑day people matters, building confidence in performance management, engagement and effective team leadership
- Support annual performance and remuneration cycles, ensuring quality, consistency and compliance, while identifying opportunities to improve processes and employee experience
- Lead change management and communication for people initiatives, with a strong focus on engagement, diversity and inclusion, and sustainable adoption within operational teams
Skills and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Employment Relations, Business or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience as a HR Generalist or HR Business Partner supporting operational leaders within a large, complex organisation (experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, mining or construction is advantageous but not essential)
- Strong capability managing complex employee and industrial relations matters, including investigations, performance management, disciplinary processes and workplace issue resolution
- Experience leveraging HRIS platforms and people data to provide insights and inform decision‑making (SuccessFactors experience desirable but not mandatory)
- Solid working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, awards, enterprise agreements and contemporary HR best practice
- Highly developed communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, coach and negotiate at all levels
- A pragmatic, solutions-focused and commercially minded approach, with demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
