About the Opportunity 

WesTrac is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the Component Rebuild Centre (CRC).  

The CRC operates continuously with a dedicated team of more than 120 professionals, specializing in the overhaul of engines, transmissions, and final drives. They provide services to both internal WesTrac branches and external customers. This branch is one of six specialized workshops at our Head Office in Tomago and is an integral part of the larger branch network across NSW/ACT. 

In this critical position, you will oversee a large team and ensure safety and efficiency within the workshop. Reporting to the Regional Manager - Components, your responsibilities will include steering the team towards achieving productivity targets and maintaining a smooth workflow, with an emphasis on minimizing turnaround times through efficient and effective planning. You will collaborate closely with your direct reports, including supervisors, planners, technical leads, and project coordinators, to uphold Caterpillar's quality standards and fulfill customer requirements. 

 

 

Key Accountabilities 

 

  • Oversee branch operations and deliver on targets and strategic objectives 

  • Drive financial performance through effective P&L management  

  • Develop and execute continuous improvement strategies to deliver on organisational goals 

  • Provide support and leadership to continue the development of the broader team 

  • Uphold safety and quality standards by fostering a safe and customer-focused culture 

  • Champion a positive workplace culture by leading initiatives that boost employee engagement, foster collaboration, and support team wellbeing 

  • Maintain customer relationships through exceptional stakeholder engagement 

  • Oversee invoicing, Work in Progress (WIP) and warranty claims  

  • Coach supervisors to maximise team productivity and utilisation through proactive scheduling and work allocation  

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders ensure statewide customer coverage by sharing resources effectively 

 

About You 

 

  • Proven operational, people and safety leadership capabilities 

  • Demonstrated commercial acumen / experience in managing budgets and producing forecasts  

  • Familiarity with component overhauls and knowledge of Caterpillar products (desired but not essential) 

  • Professional with outstanding communication skills 

  • Ability to coach others for high performance and manage teams in changing environments 

  • Tertiary qualifications in business and/ or mechanical trade background will be looked upon favourably 

  • Experience in an operational role with proven ability to boost performance 

  • High level of computer literacy / ability to work across multiple systems 

  • Lean certification will be highly regarded
