About the Opportunity
In this Legal Counsel role, you’ll work closely with a wide range of internal teams and external partners to deliver practical, commercially focused legal advice across the breadth of WesTrac’s operations. You’ll play a key role in high‑value, strategically significant contract negotiations—giving you the opportunity to deepen your commercial acumen and sharpen your negotiation skills in a hands‑on, business‑critical environment. Supported by a highly experienced General Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll have access to strong mentorship, genuine development pathways, and the resources you need to accelerate your growth and build a rewarding in‑house career.
Key Accountabilities
- Contribute to the negotiation, execution and management of high value, strategic customer sales contracts critical to continued growth.
- Advise on a broad range of matters including disputes and regulatory compliance.
- Provide practical solutions to a diverse range of problems impacting the business.
- Contribute to thought leadership on legal, risk and compliance matters including the development and provision of training to key stakeholders.
- Ensure WesTrac’s compliance with legislative requirements by monitoring legislative changes and implementing appropriate compliance programmes and frameworks.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ post‑admission experience as a qualified legal practitioner.
- Background in commercial, corporate, construction or mining law is highly regarded, though not essential.
- Tertiary qualifications in law (Bachelor of Laws).
- Admission to the Supreme Court of NSW (or another Australian jurisdiction) together with a current practising certificate.
- Proven ability to negotiate effectively and build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to exercise sound judgement in fast‑paced environments.
- Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities with confidence.
- Exceptional communication skills, particularly in delivering clear, practical legal advice.
