About the role

WesTrac is seeking an energetic and team-oriented individual to join our team at Tomago as a Leading Hand Fitter Machinist within our Machine Workshop. As a Leading Hand, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our internal workshops and external customers. In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the operations of the workshop, while also providing guidance and leadership to your team. Your primary duties as a Leading Hand Fitter Machinist will include:

 

  • Team Support and Coordination: You will be responsible for supporting and guiding your crew, ensuring that they have the necessary resources, tools, and support to carry out their work effectively. You will coordinate workflow, allocate tasks, and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • CAT Quality drawings and dimensions: This role will see you utilising your ability to interpret engineering drawings and dimensional tolerances to ensure all components are produced to a high standard.
  • Customer Focus: A strong customer focus is crucial in this role. You will strive to understand and meet customer requirements, ensuring that the quality of work you produce is of the highest quality and reliability. Your dedication to customer satisfaction will contribute to building strong and long-lasting relationships with WesTrac's valued clients.
  • Safety Leadership: Safety is a top priority at WesTrac, and as a Leading Hand, you will champion a safety-focused mindset. You will proactively promote and enforce safety protocols and procedures, creating a safe work environment for your crew and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Roster & Remuneration

  • Roster Pattern: 5D2O x2 5N2O x2
  • Monday to Thursday 10.5 hour shifts, Friday 8.5 hour shifts
  • Hourly Rates starting from $54.97+
  • Overtime Rate* starting from $82.46+
    *overtime is paid once an employee works over 50 hours

 

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Certificate 3 in Engineering - Mechanical Trade with post trade experience in manual and CNC Machining including but not limited to Lathes, Milling Machines, Horizontal and vertical borers, cylindrical and surface grinding, and surface coatings (Laser , HVOF and Metal Spraying).
  • Leadership experience
  • Previous employment by an OEM will be highly regarded
  • Solutions focused mindset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Nationally accredited Forklift, Dogman, and Working at Height tickets is desirable 
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment is highly regarded
