About the Opportunity 

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, you'll be responsible for creating detailed 3D models and technical drawings that support modifications to Caterpillar equipment and other engineering projects. Working closely with the broader Engineering team, you'll transform technical requirements into practical solutions that are safe, compliant and fit for purpose. 

This role offers the opportunity to apply your drafting expertise across a range of projects, from equipment modifications through to new engineering solutions. You'll play an important part in maintaining engineering documentation standards, supporting design reviews, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that help the team work smarter and more effectively. 

Key responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using CAD software. 
  • Interpret technical and customer requirements to deliver practical engineering solutions. 
  • Produce accurate, professional and compliant engineering documentation. 
  • Support design reviews and quality checks of engineering drawings and records. 
  • Maintain engineering documentation and configuration control records. 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the Engineering team. 

Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience in a design drafting role within mining, heavy machinery, mobile equipment or a similar industrial environment. 
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, a mechanical trade qualification, or equivalent industry experience. 
  • Strong CAD capability with experience creating detailed 3D models and technical drawings. 
  • Sound understanding of mechanical equipment design, fabrication and engineering documentation practices. 
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and develop practical, fit-for-purpose design solutions. 
  • Strong attention to detail, time management skills and a commitment to working safely and collaboratively.
