Component Estimator | Component Rebuild Centre

Our Component Rebuild Centre (CRC) at WesTrac Tomago is seeking an experienced Component Estimator to join our team and play a key role in supporting our component rebuild operations. This full‑time, Monday–Friday position offers the opportunity to contribute to one of Australia’s leading equipment dealers while working closely with specialised component rebuild teams.

Reporting to the Area Manager, the Component Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and detailed quotations for component rebuilds, ensuring estimates reflect correct labour, parts, and tooling requirements. A strong understanding of component rebuild processes, component life cycles, and costing is essential, as this role plays a critical part in ensuring rebuild viability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

This position will manage project scopes, prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), quote rebuilds, assess variations, and support continuous improvement initiatives relating to estimating accuracy and standardisation. The successful candidate will also work closely with stakeholders to clearly communicate component requirements, timelines, and estimate outcomes.

For internal purposes, this role is referred to as a Service Advisor.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse component rebuild jobs to assess viability and develop accurate work scopes and cost estimates
  • Prepare and review estimates, ensuring pricing documents detail all relevant terms, assumptions, and customer requirements
  • Verify scopes, parts lists, BOMs, and tooling needs to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Create precise component cost estimates, factoring in labour, materials, repairs, machining, freight, and other rebuild elements
  • Prepare and review quotes, including any subcontracted component work; monitor job hours and investigate discrepancies between estimated and actual costs
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of component pricing, standard job templates, and quoting history
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen understanding of component forecasting and rebuild requirements
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to enhance estimating consistency, accuracy, and efficiency

 

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in component estimating, quoting, or a similar technical estimating role
  • Strong understanding of component rebuilds, including parts identification, wear assessment, and rebuild cost structures
  • Experience using pricing or planning systems (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Uptake, Excel)
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar components and systems (highly desirable)
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with sound decision‑making ability
  • Highly developed communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build strong relationships
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and aptitude for technical data interpretation
