About the role 

Our Finance and Commercial Team is seeking a Commercial & Contracts Specialist to join their team at our head office in Tomago. This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday, with opportunities for hybrid working arrangements. This role will involve the occasional travel to customer sites and surrounding WesTrac branches.  

Reporting to Commercial Manager – Sales and Contracts NSW & ACT, the Contracts & Commercial Specialist will collaborate with sales and legal teams within WesTrac and customers to ensure contracts are established in a timely manner. With a strong understanding of commercial and legal standards, this role will support the creation and renewal of agreements. 

The Contracts & Commercial Specialist will participate in negotiating and managing customer contracts, ensuring that governance is applied to drive compliance and contractual deliverables. The role will act as a support to the business by providing advice and training to help ensure contracts are low-risk and deliver strong outcomes. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide commercial support to contract negotiations and management, ensuring governance drives compliance and deliverables 
  • Offer advice on commercial and contractual matters, offering strategically sound recommendations 
  • Support effective contract management to strengthen customer relationships and minimise risk through proactive communication 
  • Implement business unit strategy and ensure compliance to drive consistency of approach across the business 
  • Manage the Delegation of Authority system and ensure compliance with risk policies and contracts to standardise contracting and risk practices 
  • Drive continuous improvement by recognising and acting on opportunities to optimise contract support in alignment with business objectives 

Skills & Experience  

  • Demonstrated prior knowledge and experience in contract management   
  • Developed understanding of commercial, financial and advanced contracting concepts  
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting, compiling, and reviewing contract documentation and deliverables 
  • Proven experience in drafting and reviewing customer correspondence, contract variations, and scope changes 
  • Highly developed attention to detail with excellent organisational skills 
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and interpersonal 
  • Advanced computer literacy skills including MS Office  
  • Proven ability to work successfully in a team & individually 
  • Strong background in client engagement and negotiation 
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
