About the role 

Our Finance and Commercial Team is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join their team at our head office in Tomago. Working Monday-Friday on a full-time basis, this role also comes with hybrid work opportunities.    

Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, the Assistant Accountant assists in the preparation of end of month accounts as well as provides financial input into the monthly board reports. The successful applicant will perform key governance tasks, including monthly balance sheet reconciliations and governance reviews of key controls. This role will also assist functional managers with commercial information and collaborate with team members on a variety of commercial and financial initiatives.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support the preparation of end of month reports  
  • Review end of month download schedules and analyse sales margins and overheads 
  • Assist in the preparation of precise and reliable reports 
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations 
  • Complete monthly governance checklist, ensuring key controls are taking place within the business 
  • Liaise with management to ensure accurate analysis of dashboard reporting 
  • Prepare presentations and reports of financial information  
  • Participate in the improvement of existing procedures through effective development of management reporting systems 
  • Provide general support to team members   

Skills & Experience

  • Completed Tertiary qualification in Commerce
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Completing a qualification as a Chartered Accountant or a Certified Practicing Accountant desirable
  • Advanced computer literacy skills including MS Office and accounting software
  • Developed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly developed attention to detail with excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and interpersonal
  • Proven ability to work successfully in a team & individually
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
