Roster: 5 days on, 2 days off | Day shift | 10 hours per day

About the Department – Flexi Parts & Mining Services
Flexi Parts & Mining Services specialises in powertrain overhauls, machine dismantling and rebuilds, radiator overhauling services, and undercarriage repairs. The department is focused on delivering high‑quality service and support, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of heavy equipment for customers across mining and construction.
This role sits within the Flexi Cooling Services team, based at the Perth Airport workshop, supporting critical radiator exchange and overhaul operations.
The team is diverse, supportive, and high‑trust, with a strong focus on safety, accountability, collaboration, and results. Continuous improvement and strong workshop execution are key priorities, with experienced leaders providing mentoring, shadowing, and development support to help you succeed in your leadership journey.
About the Role
Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, the Leading Hand Plant Mechanic supports the day‑to‑day coordination of the workshop floor while leading the Flexi Cooling Services team to success.
The role plays a key leadership function within WesTrac’s Radiator Exchange Program, centred on the overhaul of 793F Radiators, ensuring delivery dates, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met.
This is not a predominantly hands‑on role. While a strong trade background is essential, the primary focus is on job control, planning, systems, safety leadership, and supporting people to perform at their best. There may be occasional opportunities to return to the tools when operationally required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the Flexi Cooling Services team
- Coordinate daily workflow, job control, and planning activities
- Ensure delivery dates and operational deadlines are achieved
- Support and oversee radiator overhaul operations, including the 793F exchange program
- Maintain optimum safety and efficiency throughout the overhaul process
- Use Smart Sheet / CIS systems for work planning and parts ordering
- Champion safety leadership, including stopping unsafe work
- Coach and support a diverse trades workforce
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives on the workshop floor
- Act in a leadership capacity during Supervisor leave periods
About You
You are a motivated, safety‑focused trade professional who enjoys supporting others and improving how work gets done. You are comfortable managing competing priorities and leading in a fast‑paced operational environment.
You will bring:
- Australian‑recognised Mobile Plant Trade Certificate
- A growth mindset with a genuine interest in leadership and developing others
- Solid trade background within a workshop setting
- Strong planning, coordination, and organisational skills
- Ability to work well under pressure with a strong safety focus
- Good computer skills, including confidence using job control systems and Microsoft programs
- Strong communication, time management, and punctuality
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team
