Plant Mechanic - Leading Hand

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, the Leading Hand - Plant Mechanic will join our Heavy Construction Workshop at Perth Branch on a Full-Time basis. You will be responsible for Quality, Velocity and Safety across all jobs, spending at least 60% of your time in the bay working alongside technicians to guide, support and develop their skills. You will work on a variety of equipment, from the latest Caterpillar technology to legacy machines, while installing a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Our team is dedicated to delivering innovative, reliable, and efficient Caterpillar equipment and service to enhance operational productivity and safety.

 

Roster: 5 days on, 2 days off – 10.5 hours (including a meal break)

2 weeks days 06:00am-16:30pm

1 week afternoons 15:00pm-01:30am

 

 What You’ll Do: 

  • Oversee servicing and maintenance on Caterpillar and non-Caterpillar equipment, including WesTrac’s rental and used equipment fleet
  • Lead and mentor a team of technicians with focus on Quality, Velocity and Safety
  • Provide hands on support, especially with difficult diagnostic testing and repairs
  • Support warranty repairs and compliance protocols
  • Opportunity to back fill for Workshop Supervisor

 

 Skills & Experience: 

  • Australian Recognised Trade Certificate (Heavy Vehicle Mechanic)
  • Ability to work well under pressure whilst maintaining high safety standards
  • CAT equipment experience is highly desirable
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical problems efficiently
  • Ability to work on various types of machinery and adapt to new technologies and methods
  • Precision in assembling, testing, and maintaining equipment to ensure safety and performance standards are met
