Reporting into Technology Operations Supervisor, the Mechanician will join our team on a Full-time basis at the Sandking site, 80km north of Kalgoorlie. This role involves being responsible for the installation, calibration, commissioning, warranty repairs and ongoing support of the Autonomous range of systems on Caterpillar (CAT) and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) machines in accordance with manufacturer standards, customer requirements and WesTrac’s core SPARC values and Life Saving Commitments.

The Mechanician is also responsible for the ongoing base machine mechanical/electrical maintenance and repairs for all Caterpillar (CAT) and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) machines fitted with Caterpillar Technology, where base machine interface impacts the operation of the Technology equipment.  

Roster: FIFO 4 days on 3 days off, Tuesday to Friday, 12 hour days.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on AHS-enabled Caterpillar and OEM machines, including troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical systems on underground machines.
  • Install, commission, and calibrate MineStar system components (hardware, electrical, mechanical) on Caterpillar and OEM equipment, and audit machines to identify parts and installation needs.
  • Create and review customer documentation, including test results, schematics, build mark-ups, and final configurations for customer approval.
  • Support site operations by performing preventative maintenance, attend breakdowns, diagnosing faults, and carrying out repairs according to Caterpillar, Westrac, and customer procedures.
  • Deliver excellent customer service in all interactions, showing strong customer care and relationship-building skills.
  • Monitor equipment delays and manage machine logistics.
  • Oversee quality assurance and control (QA/QC) for all MineStar installations and maintenance work.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Heavy Mobile Plant Mechanic AND/OR Automotive Electrician with the Australian Recognised Trade Certificate coupled with similar post trade experience.
  • Advanced diagnostics skills in hydraulic, pneumatic and heavy-diesel systems, AND/OR Advanced experience in Machine Control & Guidance
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and Technical Specifications
  • Experience in heavy machinery mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair
  • Prior experience maintaining CAT MineStar onboard systems or similar Fleet Management Systems (Desirable)
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to build and maintain successful working relationships
  • Understands and drives Continuous Improvement initiatives across all aspects of the role.
