Leading Hand Plant Mechanic – Mt Thorley

WesTrac is seeking an experienced Leading Hand to join our Mt Thorley Rebuilds Workshop.

Our Rebuilds Workshop is responsible for completing machine overhauls and repairs on open-cut mining equipment for some of our biggest customers throughout NSW. Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, our Leading Hand will assist in supporting our team with productivity, efficiency, and job quality to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. With a commitment to excellence and a key focus on safety, this role will see you utilising your experience to provide our team with mechanical and technical support.

Roster & Remuneration

  • Monday to Friday - 2 weeks day, 2 weeks nights
  • Up to 43% allowances applied on all hours worked
  • Potential earnings up to $217,000

*Above rates are a guide only – each candidate will be assessed on their experience
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide coordination and leadership to a team of technicians
  • Ensuring that work orders are completed on time and to a high standard
  • Complete machine repairs to Caterpillar quality standards
  • Promote and maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment
  • Coordinating the team’s activities to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction and best practice standards, ensuring all company, quality assurance and legal requirement are adhered to
  • Accurately diagnose faults and assist with repairs

Skills & Experience 

  • Australian recognised Mechanical trade with machine overhaul experience 
  • Leadership experience with the ability to build a cohesive team
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks and organise teams 
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment (highly desired) 
  • Strong commitment to meeting customer requirements 
  • Excellent diagnostic and repair skills and a strong commitment to service excellence  
  • Excellent attitude to your work, and dedication to safe work practice 
  • Solutions focused mindset and ability to adapt to changing requirements  
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
