Workshop Plant Mechanic – Hunter Valley Region

Join our Mt Thorley Rebuilds Workshop as a Plant Mechanic and play a key role in delivering high‑quality rebuilds and exemplary workmanship across our CAT fleet.

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will take ownership of the rebuild, repair, and commissioning process for Caterpillar machinery within our workshop facility. You’ll ensure every machine leaving our Rebuild Centre is safe, reliable, and performing at WesTrac’s industry‑leading standards.

In this workshop‑based role, you will work closely with a team of highly skilled Plant Mechanics throughout the full rebuild lifecycle - disassembling and assembling major components, diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and completing scheduled maintenance. With strong attention to detail and mechanical expertise, you will ensure each machine meets all operational, safety, and quality requirements.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on rebuild work, thrives in a structured workshop environment, and takes pride in following a machine’s journey from teardown to completion.

To be successful, you’ll need:

  • Australian recognised mechanical trade
  • Proven experience in machine rebuilds, major component overhauls, or new machine assembly
  • Experience working with Caterpillar or comparable surface mining equipment
  • Strong diagnostic capability and a safety‑driven mindset
  • A proactive, quality‑focused approach to completing rebuild tasks
  • Unrestricted Driver’s Licence


Responsibilities

  • Conduct strip‑downs, rebuilds, repairs, and assembly of CAT machinery and major components within the workshop.
  • Perform detailed inspections, diagnostic testing, and quality checks throughout the rebuild process to ensure machines meet WesTrac standards.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance, repairs, and adjustments to support rebuild timelines and customer requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised workshop environment in line with WesTrac safety procedures.
