Field Service Plant Mechanic – Hunter Valley Region
Join our Mt Thorley Rebuilds Workshop as a Field Follow Plant Mechanic and play a pivotal role in delivering an exceptional customer experience.
Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will take ownership of commissioning, delivering, and overseeing the handover of rebuilt CAT equipment. As the key link between the workshop and our customers, you will ensure every machine leaves our facility performing at its absolute best.
In this role, you will work closely with our skilled Plant Mechanics to support the full rebuild process - assembling machinery, diagnosing faults, carrying out routine maintenance, and conducting detailed inspections. Your attention to detail and mechanical expertise will ensure each machine is ready for site conditions and meets WesTrac’s high standards.
With strong diagnostic capability and a safety‑first mindset, this role is ideal for someone who thrives on problem‑solving and enjoys following a build from workshop floor to customer site. As a Rebuilds Specialist, you will be hands‑on throughout the entire lifecycle - supporting customers during those critical early stages of operation and ensuring a seamless transition back into service.
You will be backed by a tool‑of‑trade vehicle and a collaborative, high‑performing team, giving you everything you need to deliver outstanding results.
To be successful, you'll need:
- Cert III in Mobile Plant Technology (essential)
- Certificate of Proficiency (essential)
- Proven experience with new builds or machine rebuilds
- Familiarity with Caterpillar or similar brand surface mining equipment is essential.
- A proactive, customer-focused mindset and strong diagnostic skills
- Unrestricted Drivers License
- Applicants with site bans are ineligible
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary onsite point of contact, addressing customer requirements and providing excellent customer service.
- Coordinate onsite assembly and customisation of CAT machinery based on customer specifications.
- Perform repairs, maintenance, and inspections on CAT machinery to ensure optimal working condition before handover.
- Provide travel support, visiting various locations throughout Newcastle and the Hunter Region to offer field service assistance and address customer needs.
- Liaise and coordinate with internal stakeholders, such as Mining Support Representatives and Project Coordinators, to manage customer requests and machine requirements, ensuring a smooth and efficient delivery process.
