Lake Cowal, NSW, AU

About the Role

WesTrac is seeking an experienced Asset Reliability Specialist/Engineer to join our Mining Support Team as a Site Performance Specialist, based on-site at Cowal Mine Site. This is a full‑time, permanent opportunity working Monday to Friday, with relocation assistance available for candidates interested in joining us in the region.

Reporting to the Mining Support Manager, you will play a pivotal role in helping our customer maximise the performance, reliability, and lowest total cost of ownership of their CAT fleet — while also identifying and progressing commercial and aftermarket sales opportunities on behalf of WesTrac. This position combines high‑quality technical support, expert advice on equipment optimisation, and leveraging fleet performance data to drive continuous improvement and commercial value across site operations.

As a proactive and results‑driven Site Performance Specialist, you will bring strong analytical capability, exceptional communication skills, and a commercial instinct for identifying opportunities that benefit both the customer relationship and WesTrac’s growth. You will be a part of a dynamic environment where collaboration, innovation, and customer focus are key.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with our key customer, Caterpillar and internal stakeholders, acting as the on-site technical liaison across Cowal and Wagga
  • Analyse fleet performance data to identify underperforming assets and provide timely, effective technical solutions to equipment issues
  • Conduct wear management inspections and provide condition monitoring recommendations to optimise total cost of ownership, supported by high-quality technical reports
  • Work closely with the customer to resolve unplanned downtime, providing on-site technical advice, troubleshooting and warranty support
  • Review, assess, and recommend improvements to maintenance and operational practices, and support component lifecycle management and breakdown response coordination
  • Identify and develop aftermarket sales opportunities through regular customer engagement and fleet analysis, referring qualified opportunities to the Mining Support Manager to support business growth

Skills and Experience

  • Mechanical Trade Certificate (or tertiary qualification in Engineering) plus a minimum of 5 years’ post-trade experience on Cat equipment
  • Sound commercial acumen, with the ability to identify and clearly communicate sales and aftermarket opportunities to the Mining Support Manager
  • Strong understanding of whole-of-life cost, Fleet Production Cost (FPC) and equipment application, with familiarity with CAT systems (DBS, SIS, ET, SIMSi, TMI) an advantage
  • Demonstrated high-level customer relationship management and advanced communication skills
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot equipment faults, analyse data and compile reports to drive performance improvement
  • A strong safety-first mindset, with the ability to work autonomously or within a team across a 5/2 roster
