Plant Mechanic - Leading Hand

Reporting into the Shift Supervisor, the Leading Hand Plant Mechanic will join our KCGM department on a full-time permanent basis located in Kalgoorlie. Your responsibilities will involve the hands-on supervision of a crew of 19 Trades as well as carrying out mechanical repairs and maintenance to equipment enrolled within the contract.
You will assist to provide Equipment Management solutions to WesTrac's customer while also ensuring work is completed in a collaborative, team environment with a strong focus on safety.
WesTrac KCGM, located in the Goldfields in Kalgoorlie, partners with Northern Star for maintenance. Our team handles mobile workshop and on-site repairs for a large machine fleet, performing servicing, planned shuts, and minor repairs.
Residential Roster:
7 days, 3 off, 7 nights, 4 off – 12 hrs each day (inclusive of 30 mins unpaid break)
What You’ll Do:
• Delegation of assignments, monitor and manage progress and ensure efficient completion of tasks to the
required standard.
• Provide timely updates and act as a liaison between the team, higher management and the client.
• Demonstrating Caterpillar best practices and assist with troubleshooting complex faults.
• Perform quality control on completed assignments to ensure standard of work meets the Clients’ and
Dealership expectation
• The LH may be required to perform shift work changes across other crews to support the business on site.
• Provide relief coverage and swap roles with M1 in some cases and support the Workshop Supervisor
as required.
Skills & Experience:
• Mobile Plant, Heavy Diesel or Auto Electrician Trade Qualification with post trade experience.
• Previous experience in a leadership or Leading Hand position desirable.
• Understanding of Caterpillar Equipment and CAT Warranty Process.
• AMT, SIS, DBS knowledge for daily work order control and management.
• Strong mechanical skills including fault finding and diagnostic.
• Ability to provide positive leadership, manage people & resolve conflict.
