Trade Assistant -Forklift Operator

Reporting into the WIP Shed Supervisor, the Trade Assistant will join our WIP Shed Department on a Full-Time basis at our South Guildford location. This role involves working alongside our CRC teams to manage and deliver work-in-progress materials between the WIP Shed and the Component Rebuild Centre.
This is an autonomous, hands-on operational role where the successful candidate will be responsible for managing daily tasks independently, ensuring materials flow efficiently, and maintaining accurate system and inventory records.
Key responsibilities include moving and managing materials, processing reman cores and dispatching, operating forklifts (including counterbalance and high reach), and maintaining accurate inventory records. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving capability, and the ability to prioritise workflow are essential to ensure smooth and continuous operations.

The WIP Shed at WesTrac plays a crucial role in managing the flow of work-in-progress materials between strip down and rebuild stages. Supporting the Caterpillar Rebuild Centre with reliable and innovative solutions, the team enhances operational efficiency and safety.

Roster
- 5 On, 2 Off - Monday to Friday
- 10.5 hours (inclusive of 30 mins unpaid break) 6am to 4:30pm
- 2 weeks of day shift, 2 weeks night shift
- 1 x Saturday per month
What You'll Do
- Assist in the movement of materials within the WIP Shed
- Manage inventory and maintain accurate system records
- Operate forklifts (counterbalance and high reach) safely and efficiently
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure smooth workflow
- Independently manage daily priorities to meet operational deadlines
Skills & Experience
- Experience working with mining, construction, or industrial equipment
- Solid forklift operational experience is essential (not just licensed) – confidence and capability to work independently from day one
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage daily tasks without supervision
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to work across multiple systems
- Proven ability to prioritise workflow and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment
- Dogging (desirable)
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience using safety and risk assessment tools such as Job Safety Analysis and Take 5’s
