Test Bench Operator

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, the Transmission Test Bench Operator will join our Powertrain Department on a full-time basis at our Guildford location. This role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining test benches to conduct various tests on transmissions, control valves, and hydraulic pumps. You’ll play a critical role in testing, analysing data, and troubleshooting CAT transmissions and related components to ensure peak performance.

Our Transmissions Store assembles transmissions and torque converters to a “like-new” condition, ensuring customers achieve full component life. Components are stripped, assessed, and a CAR report is provided to customers detailing findings and costs. Once parts are ready, they are assembled, painted, and corrosion-wrapped for protection.

 

Roster

5 On, 2 Off – 2 weeks dayshift, 2 weeks nightshift – 10 hrs/day

 

What You’ll Do

  • Set up, operate, and maintain test benches
  • Conduct tests on transmissions, control valves, and hydraulic pumps
  • Analyse data and troubleshoot CAT transmissions and hydraulic systems
  • Collaborate with workshop teams for efficient workflow
  • Maintain accurate test records and documentation

 

Skills & Experience

  • Australian Recognised Mechanical Trade Certificate
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Understanding of service reporting and literature
  • Heavy equipment product knowledge; component change-out and overhaul experience (desired)
  • Strong alignment with WesTrac’s SPARC values: Safety, Pride, Accountability, Respect, Customer
  • Experience completing rebuilds and overhauls on Caterpillar and non-Caterpillar heavy earthmoving equipment
