Reporting to the Technical Engineering Manager, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will join our Engineering team on a permanent basis at our South Guildford Parts Distribution Centre and is responsible for managing allocated projects, leading and mentoring mechanical and graduate engineers, providing technical support to workshop teams and customers, and fostering a safe and positive workplace. The role oversees team performance within the assigned stream, ensuring business objectives are achieved while managing risk and compliance. Accountable for maintaining engineering standards, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices, the Senior Mechanical Engineer provides leadership and supervision to ensure high-quality outcomes across all areas of responsibility.

Roster – 5 Days, 8.5 Hrs/Day

 

What You'll Do:

  • Provide Safety Leadership – Ensure all engineering activities, designs, and modifications are completed safely and in compliance with WesTrac, customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and Develop Engineering Teams – Lead a team of Graduate Mechanical Engineers, mentor, coach, and provide technical leadership to mechanical and graduate engineers to drive engagement, capability, and performance.
  • Deliver Engineering Solutions – Lead the design, review, approval, and delivery of safe, compliant, and fit-for-purpose mechanical engineering solutions and machine modifications. Undertake complex FEA analysis including calculations and design manufacturing drawings.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Provide expert technical advice, resolve complex mechanical issues, support customers and workshops, and guide engineering risk and compliance decisions.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering Expertise – Advanced capability in mechanical design, machine modifications, and technical problem-solving for heavy mobile equipment.
  • Safety & Compliance Management – Ensures all engineering solutions meet Safety in Design principles, regulatory requirements, and Australian/International standards.
  • Leadership & Mentoring – Leads, develops, and mentors’ graduate engineers to deliver high-performing, quality engineering outcomes.
  • Project Delivery & Planning – Manages multiple engineering projects, priorities, and resources to achieve business objectives on time and within scope.
  • Technical Decision-Making – Acts as the engineering SME, providing expert guidance, design approvals, and resolution of complex mechanical issues.
