Laboratory Technician

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Technician is accountable for conducting appropriate testing and analysis of fluid samples (e.g. oil, coolant, fuel and grease) including uploading results and checking for quality prior to release for interpretation and data analysis. The role also assists occasionally with the preparation of samples for analysis.

 

This position will be offered on a 3-month fixed term contract with the potential to extend.

 

Roster:  40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, fortnightly rotating roster between mornings (6am-2:30pm) and afternoons (2pm-10:30pm)

Location: South Guildford, WA

 

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct testing and analysis of fluid samples, including oil, coolant, fuel, and grease
  • Upload results and verify data quality before release for interpretation
  • Assist with sample preparation for analysis as required
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure adherence to testing procedures
  • Collaborate with team members to uphold quality standards and improve efficiency
  • Follow safety protocols and compliance requirements in all laboratory activities
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory processes

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or above
  • Strong computer literacy skills – MS Windows & Office (critical), LabWare/LIMS (desirable)
  • Experience in a laboratory environment – fast-paced, high-volume sample processing labs advantageous
  • Comfortable with some manual handling and lifting
  • Some flexibility with rosters and shifts to accommodate varying operational requirements, including occasional weekend work
  • Familiar with instruments and software used in machinery fluid analysis e.g. viscometers, particle counters, FTIR, IC, and ICP-OES (desirable)
  • High level of attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with a close-knit team and autonomously
  • Instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and experience with automation systems will be highly considered
