IT Operations Manager

Reporting to the IT General Manager, the IT Operations Manager is responsible for the reliability, security, performance, and optimisation of WesTrac’s core technology infrastructure, cybersecurity operations, and critical business systems.

 

This role leads both the Infrastructure & Operations function and the Cyber Security team, ensuring stable, secure, and scalable IT services that enable operational excellence. The position oversees infrastructure, cloud platforms, network operations, storage, backups, cybersecurity operations, and enterprise applications vital to WesTrac’s operations.

 

The role also provides oversight and support for specialist operational systems including DBS, Kardex, OnTrack, IDS, and Caterpillar Autonomous Vehicle network environments. It further leads the organisation’s AI Centre of Excellence, enabling the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of enterprise AI platforms including Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure Foundry, Machine Coordination Platform (MCP), and AI‑to‑AI interfaces.

Roster:  Mon-Fri 8.5 hours (including lunch)

 

What you'll do:

 

  • Lead and manage end‑to‑end Infrastructure & Operations to deliver reliable, secure, and high‑performing IT services across all WesTrac operations, encompassing infrastructure and business systems (including DBS, Kardex, and operational technologies), as well as server, storage, virtualisation, network, cloud, backup, and disaster recovery environments.
  • Design, support, and continuously improve critical operational and autonomous systems, including Caterpillar Autonomous Vehicle network environments, ensuring compliance with OEM and safety standards while driving standardisation, automation, and ongoing service optimisation across all infrastructure services.
  • Lead and govern cyber security operations by providing oversight of the Cyber Security team, ensuring alignment with organisational risk appetite and governance frameworks, and overseeing monitoring, detection, response, remediation, vulnerability management, and third‑party security services.
  • Ensure secure and resilient technology environments by managing and optimising key security platforms (including Cisco ISE, Cisco Umbrella, and Microsoft XDR) and embedding secure design and operations across IT and OT environments, particularly within autonomous and heavy equipment technologies.
  • Lead enterprise AI capability and delivery by overseeing the AI Centre of Excellence and the design, implementation, lifecycle management, and integration of AI and automation solutions, including Copilot Studio, Azure Foundry, MCP, and AI‑to‑AI interfaces.
  • Ensure responsible and secure AI adoption by embedding governance, security, and compliance requirements across all AI solutions and enterprise integrations.
  • Lead and develop a high‑performing Infrastructure, Operations, and Cyber Security workforce by providing coaching and leadership, ensuring operational readiness, resilience, disaster recovery capability, and effective incident management through planning and testing.
  • Ensure efficient, standards‑aligned service delivery by managing vendors and service providers for SLA compliance and cost optimisation, and collaborating closely with Cyber Security, Architecture, Applications, Data, and GRC teams to align with enterprise standards.

 

 

Skills and Experience:

 

  • Extensive technical leadership background with 10+ years’ experience across Infrastructure, Cyber Security, and IT Operations, including leading and developing multi‑disciplinary technical teams.
  • Strong enterprise infrastructure and hybrid cloud expertise, with 7+ years hands‑on experience across servers, storage, networking, backups, Hyper‑V and VMware, plus 10+ years maintaining on‑prem Azure Hybrid environments and supporting SAP infrastructure.
  • Proven experience in OT and specialised operational systems, including support for DBS, Kardex, IDS, OnTrack, VALO intranet, and the design, implementation, and support of Caterpillar Autonomous Vehicle network systems.
  • Demonstrated cyber security leadership and operational capability, with 6+ years managing Cyber Security teams and functions, hands‑on experience with Cisco security products, Microsoft XDR, F5 load balancers, and a strong understanding of secure OT/IT convergence.
  • AI and automation enablement experience, including running or supporting an AI Centre of Excellence, implementing enterprise AI solutions using Microsoft Copilot Studio and Azure Foundry, and designing and maintaining AI systems including MCP and AI‑to‑AI interfaces.
  • Strong professional qualifications and governance expertise, including tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, ITIL and project management certification (or equivalent experience), recognised cybersecurity certifications, and 10+ years of IT infrastructure management experience.
