Reporting to the Senior HSE Advisor WA, the HSE Advisor provides technical, behavioural and leadership expertise through guidance and education to organisational front-line management and stakeholders.

 

The purpose of this role is to assist WesTrac in managing risks and ensuring operations are conducted in line with WesTrac policies, procedures, and applicable legislation. This position will ensure that an increased awareness of health, safety and environment is achieved within the business, resulting in better operational controls of risks, and reduced operational risk profile.

 

Location:  Perth Metro

Roster:  Monday to Friday 8.5 hours (including lunch break)

 

 

What you will do:

 

  • Lead, mentor, coach, and influence frontline leaders to strengthen their understanding of risk management and support them in meeting legislative safety obligations while maintaining risks at ALARP levels.
  • Lead and facilitate incident investigations, applying relevant HSE tools, methodologies, and models to guide stakeholders through effective risk treatment.
  • Conduct and facilitate risk assessments while advising frontline management in contemporary OHS risk management practices.
  • Lead proactive workplace assessments, support the identification of critical risk profiles, and assist in developing tailored risk control measures.
  • Provide strong, visible field‑based safety leadership and promote compliance with WesTrac safety values.
  • Support the Senior HSE Advisor and HSE Manager in implementing broader HSE strategies and initiatives across the business.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent and promote WesTrac’s HSE values at all customer and stakeholder interfaces.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE Management Systems across the WesTrac group.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and actively influence positive change in safety culture.
  • Ensure HSE systems, processes, and practices remain accurate, relevant, and aligned with industry best practice.

 

 

 

Skills and Experience:

 

Education/Certificates

 

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • ICAM (or similar methodology) Lead Investigator course and experience in root causal analysis

 

Experience and Knowledge

  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills – interpersonal, written and verbal
  • Advanced computer literacy skills (MS Office Suite)
  • Highly developed attention to detail with the ability to identify continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ability to work successfully within a team and autonomously
  • Advanced time management, planning and organisational skills with the ability manage multiple priorities to meet objectives
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to provide recommendations and action as required
  • Previous experience developing and facilitating training to a large and diverse group
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and proven ability to interpret conditions
