About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Leading Hand to support our Grafton Workshop operations. This hands‑on role works closely with the Workshop Supervisor to coordinate daily workflow, provide technical guidance, and ensure safe, high‑quality maintenance and repair work across CAT mobile plant.

You’ll lead by example on the floor — supporting trades, mentoring apprentices, and keeping jobs progressing efficiently. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior Plant Mechanic looking to step into leadership or continue developing their leadership capability within a high‑performing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily job allocation, labour planning, and workflow progression

  • Provide technical support, diagnostics, and troubleshooting for the workshop team

  • Mentor apprentices and support the development of trade assistants

  • Ensure all work is completed safely, accurately, and in line with WesTrac standards

  • Assist with work order management, parts coordination, and job status updates

  • Maintain workshop housekeeping, tooling, and equipment readiness

  • Support the Workshop Supervisor with customer updates and operational problem‑solving

Skills & Experience

  • Trade‑qualified Plant Mechanic (or equivalent heavy diesel qualification)

  • Strong experience with CAT mobile plant or similar heavy equipment

  • Demonstrated leadership capability or experience mentoring others

  • Solid diagnostic and fault‑finding skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • Experience with SAP or similar systems (desirable)

  • Previous WesTrac or Caterpillar experience highly regarded
