MECHANICAL SPECIALIST - LONGWALL       

About the role

WesTrac is seeking an energetic and team orientated Mechanical Specialist to join our underground operations team. Reporting to the Operations Manager - Underground Coal, the Mechanical Specialist is accountable for delivering specialist mechanical engineering support on Caterpillar Underground Longwall equipment to support the WesTrac customer base across NSW.

The successful applicant will be an industry recognised expert with extensive Longwall product knowledge and able to provide exceptional mechanical support to stakeholders at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

We require a Mechanical Specialist to be based out of Mount Thorley, NSW to mentor and supply high level engineering guidance for both field and workshop activities. The Mechanical Specialist will provide a single point of contact for internal and external enquiries and also be responsible issue resolution in their respective field.

You will support WesTrac in developing our internal skill levels to position us to continue to provide our customers with highly skilled technicians. This will require you to develop strong and collaborative relationships with the OEM / Caterpillar in order to keep up-to-date with the latest equipment design specifications. You will utilise this knowledge to facilitate support, develop and deliver training, both internally and externally on customer sites (including underground). 

Skills & Experience

As the successful candidate you will possess the following skills:

• Dedicated to maintaining and promoting safe work practices
• Mechanical Engineering qualification or Trade with a view to completing a recognised mechanical engineering qualification
• Proven experience with demonstrated operational experience of Caterpillar (ex Bucyrus, DBT) Longwall Systems
• Knowledge and experience in using design software such as AutoCAD
• Excellent customer relationship skills with the ability to build and maintain successful working connections
• Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills to effectively resolve issues in the workplace
• High level of attention to detail and the ability to apply critical thinking and identify continuous improvement opportunities
• Advanced time management, planning and organisational skills with the ability manage multiple priorities to meet objectives
• Positive attitude towards gaining successful outcomes and working well in team environments
• Ability to work successfully within a team and autonomously
• Willingness and ability to be contactable after hours
